Washington, DC

We took a trip to Washington, DC, and we had a great time! I had a work conference to attend, and Paul and Greta came along for the ride. While I was at the conference all day, they caught up with old friends, tooled around DC, went to the museums, picked blueberries, and went swimming. Here are a few photos of our trip. Here, Greta was channeling all the lawyers she saw at the conference: high heels, cell phone in hand, and all business persona. Not sure how the tooth brush fits in, but it's her little bit of flare, I guess. It was sunny in DC. Greta needed her "eyes" to keep the sun at bay.
Greta got to meet some of our dearest friends from law school: Rachel, Suma, Katy, and Michael.

When they weren't touring the city, Greta and Paul found time for a dip in the hotel pool. On this day, I was between sessions, so I had time to join them to take a photo or two.
Greta enjoyed the water, but she was most content sunbathing.
Paul and Greta visited the Natural History Museum. Q: What do porcupines do? A: "Ouch!" That's the jist of what she learned at this particular attraction.
At the Air and Space Museum Greta and Paul met up with Rachel. They enjoyed learning about buoyancy. Plus Greta learned that Rachel is the coolest, and she wishes that Rachel could live closer! (We do, too!)
Greta and Paul took some strolls on the Mall and checked to make sure our park bench was still there. When Paul and I got engaged, we were walking on the Mall, and while we were stopped at a bench, Paul carved our initials into the bench. They are still there five years later! Looks like the bench has been painted, but our mark remains. (T + P)We also got to see some friends of ours from Egypt, Daria and Aaron. We met them for dinner and milkshakes in Eastern Market.
That sneaky Aaron!
On our last day there (while I was slaving away at my conference . . . ) Greta and Paul and Rachel went blueberry picking in Maryland. Here she is pretending to put them in the bag.
And here is the real story. Still, though, they made it home with enough berries for some yummy muffins. Thanks to Rachel for hooking us up with her oh so nice friends!
We had a fantastic mini-vacation, and if you ever have to go to a work conference, I highly recommend visiting close friends and taking your family. We had a great time!
