Paul and I met each other in Niger when we were Peace Corps Volunteers. During the time that we were living in Niger, we met this amazing family - - the Millers. They were there teaching at the American School, and just generally living a kind of crazy adventure that most people would never consider but that we find fascinating and tempting. They have taught internationally for the lion's share of their career, and the Miller kids, Caitlin and Eli, have spent way more time living in places like Guam, Niger, and Egypt than in the States. We spent many nights at the Millers' home while in Niger, ate their banana bread, drank their wine, slept in their air conditioned rooms, used their sparkling clean shower (you might only get this part if you, too, were a PCV living in a mud hut), and we have loved them very dearly ever since. When Paul and I began to look at going abroad again in 2006, we looked seriously at Egypt because we knew that the Millers were living there. Their being there is what made us look at Egypt in the first place and was the deciding factor for choosing it over Turkey when push came to shove. Once in Egypt, we spent nearly every Friday (Egypt's Saturday) at their home drinking coffee, eating breakfast and just hanging out with them. We watched tons of tv, ate many dinners out and in, went to soccer games and races, our families were guests in their home, and we were treated as always - - as members of their family. We've kind of watched Caitlin and Eli grow up and we just love this family so much. Now, Caitlin is headed for University in the States, Eli and Mary are headed to India, and we are here in North Carolina. We all met up this summer in Oregon for a very short visit. Following are some photos of our visit that Mary just posted on her facebook page. I'm terrible at taking my own photos, but I am very good at stealing others' photos! We miss you guys!!!!

Greta, Caitlin, Mary, me, Paul, Eli, and a tiny bit of Carlos (the rotund Chihuahua they've had since pre-Niger)

Man, Eli got TALL!

Sweet hugs.

Greta is giddy to be with this new friend!

Speaking of friends, Carlos doesn't look exactly giddy, but he's being pretty nice.

Now he's downright flirtatious!

Greta was very happy to finally meet these Millers she's been hearing about! Thanks for the photos, Mary!!
AWwww sniff sniff...we miss you too...wish you were here for weekend coffee and bagles. xoxo
