Crawling! (and other adventures)
Today Greta became a new baby! She decided to make the leap to CRAWLING! She discovered how to get her legs under her and inch forward (rather than backward!) this morning. Since then, she's been trying out her new skills all over the house. We finally plugged the outlets and moved the cleaning products to higher ground. She's not terribly graceful, but she is moving about on her knees now rather than on her bottom! She is funny, though, because she only moves a little on her knees before stopping to sit on her bottom. She seems not to be entirely sure yet of the technique of crawling: hand up, knee up, other hand up, other knee up. Instead, she's putting both hands up, and then both knees up - - which lends itself to inch worming on her knees. Another day or two, and I'm sure she'll have it all figured out.
In other firsts, Greta ate her first real finger foods today. We've offered them before, but they usually don't make it into her mouth. Today, we tried some avocado, and she hit the mark at least a few times. She did need a bath after lunch since she was coated in slimy green, but it's progress.
Those little pieces are slippery!
Third and final new thing of the day - - the Sippy Cup! I put a little water in the cup, and I think a drop or two managed to get into her mouth. Mostly, Greta was just very happy to have a new toy. Paul was amazed at the engineering of the cup itself. It really withstood Greta's knocks and throws without spilling.
It's like a giant pacifier with the occasional burst of cold wet something or other!
We had a great day of first things. We love watching Greta learn such amazing new skills in the span of just a few hours. She's like watching one of those sped-up videos of a sun rising and setting or a flower opening and closing. We are seeing her actually process, figure out, and try brand new things at a very rapid pace. What a miracle she is to us.
