Today I was a speaker at a District Court Judges' meeting. Before my presentation, the judge presiding over the meeting introduced me. Instead of the usual intro that would include my law school and law firm and type of law that I practice, she said this to a room full of judges: "Traci Massey is our presenter and she is an attorney at Legal Services of Southern Piedmont. She is the wife of Paul Booth, who is my daughter's favorite teacher ever. Traci, you want to go ahead and get started?"
Three days ago I was at a law luncheon with over 400 lawyers in attendance. At that event, one of the event planners approached me to say that a particular well-known attorney was looking for me. I said that I did not know that attorney personally, to which the event planner responded: "He doesn't know you. He knows Paul and he wants to meet you because you are Paul's wife." When I finally met this man, he told me that his child was in Paul's class last year and that Paul was the greatest. I said, "Thank you." He responded: "No, thank YOU for sharing him with us."
Seriously? How is it that my legal reputation seems to be built on how much little kids like Paul? Alas, I am very proud of him, and I know Greta and Wyatt will be, too, one day. Paul is a great man, a great teacher, and an even better dad.
