Wyatt's First Few Days

Wyatt came home almost exactly 24 hours after his birth thanks to some arm twisting at the hospital by his dearly devoted parents. We got some frowns of disapproval, but Paul and I are so happy to be in our own nest with our sweet boy rather than in the sterile hospital. Wyatt is an amazing little baby in that he almost never cries and he's just pretty easy going and calm. No colic (knock wood) and he is nursing perfectly. After one week, we have finally made it over the sleep hump (knock wood again): Wyatt will now sleep between feedings in a place other than in our arms. For the first full week, he refused to sleep on my chest, on our bed beside me, in his own bed, in his cradle, and etc. He ONLY wanted to sleep in a person's arms. The set of arms didn't seem to matter - - just that he was being held. This is wonderfully cozy until day three when you realize that you've slept for only a few hours total! But last night - thanks to a sound machine, I think - Wyatt slept between feedings in his little bed next to me. Sleep, oh Sleep - - how I've missed you!

Once Wyatt was born, he was welcomed home by his big sister, Greta. She has been totally infatuated with "baby bru-thuh". Greta was very interested in Wyatt's whereabouts when he first came home. Who was holding him? Was he happy? If he was crying, she cried. When he felt better and cheered up, Greta would as well. And she would then point to Wyatt and say, "Happy now." The first major bout of emotional empathy came when Greta saw Wyatt's umbilical stump. She was absolutely mortified by his "boo boo" and knew that is must "hurt, mama." Greta is exceedingly gentle with Wyatt and loves to hold him and rub his head - - and after said rubbing Greta says, "Soft." I love watching her with Wyatt and I can't wait for him to be able to respond to her. Look at those skinny legs!
Sweet sleep in his bouncy seat.
Daddy's babes.
The night of Wyatt's birth. A little pale there, mom.
Next morning - - Wyatt and Greta met for the first time. Love at first sight.
And Wyatt had other visitors, too. Nana and Grandaddy came to see him driving through the night to get here.
Who had the baby? :)
Greta had fun at the hospital playing with the latex gloves. Big fan of those.
Wyatt and big sister.
Aunt Lori visited Wyatt in the hospital, too. She was here for several days prior to his birth and helped mom during the contractions at home. Since I delivered Wyatt so quickly once I left home, Lori was around for most of my labor.
Greta brought Wyatt some flowers. Sweet big sister.
We love you, Wyatt, and we are so very happy you are here! Happy week one, sweet boy!
