Two year olds are SMART!

Paul says that right around two years old, humans become smarter than dogs. Not sure if that's a viable fact, but I do know that Greta is one smart little person. Yesterday Paul had to make a run to our rental house in Durham, so Greta and I spent the whole day alone together. Part of our day was spent playing with some Play-Doh. Among other things, we sculpted an octopus. To my knowledge, this was Greta's first encounter with the word or the thing - - "octopus." She didn't much care for it, quickly removed his legs and mushed them up, and seemed wholly disinterested in the sea creature. Fast forward about seven hours. Greta and I were putting together a puzzle right before bedtime. It was an alphabet puzzle and under the "o" piece was a picture of an octopus. When I said the word, her eyes brightened, and she hopped up, ran over to her Play-Doh box and kept saying "aw-pus" over and over. I had to take out the Play-Doh and make another one. Greta ripped the legs right off of him, too, but it was amazing to me that she remembered him and that she put two and two together in that way. I am around a lot of little kids these days, and they are all so smart - - even smarter than a golden retriever! And I can't say that for many adults! :)
