Spring Break 2010 - Wahooo!

This week we traveled to San Francisco for Spring Break! We stayed with Paul's brother, Matt, and got to see a good friend of mine from law school, Katy. Greta got to see so many sites that our post is going to be particularly lengthy. Here goes! Greta enjoyed her first city bus ride on the hilly streets of SF. She is a fan of urban living. So accessible!
We rode the bus to Fisherman's Warf to see sea lions and seals. Of course! She was interested in them, but not so much as the pigeons and sea gulls. Greta was amazed that they were basically tame.
Then off to see sharks and jellies and sting rays at the acquariam. Since it was a little rainy our first day, these indoor activities were fun.

Day two we spent wandering around Haight Ashbury book shops and Golden Gate Park.
Greta picked this book off the shelf and carried it around with her for awhile. Hmm . . . .

Then off to Golden Gate Park where there was the most giant playground any of us had ever seen. It proved a little overwhelming, so we just went deeper into the park to take a nap in the grass.
By "we", I mean Paul and me. Greta was having nothing to do with a nap at this point.

We spent the last part of the day in the California Academy of Sciences museum. Greta finally decided to nap right around the whale exhibit. Didn't stop us from finding out how many of her it would take to equal one whale. She would have been fascinated.
Next day, Uncle Matt took the day off and arranged a sailing trip in the bay with a friend! This was our view on Wednesday as we sailed around under the Bay Bridge, past Alcatraz, and over to Angel Island. Weather was superb, and it was a lovely day.
Greta got to hang with Uncle Matt. She was a big fan of sailing (if not a fan of the life jacket).
Greta was co-captain for awhile.
And sometimes she and Uncle Matt were more like first mates. They did the real sailing work.
Here she is tightening up the sails!
What a beautiful day and a great way to see SF. I highly recommend having a brother-in-law who has a friend whose dad has a 38 foot sailboat. :)
But as it usually happens - - sleep eventually won out.
Next day, bright and early, we boarded our first of four planes to journey eastward. Greta was a total trooper on our ride home. She is a little more sleepy for the wear, but otherwise, you'd never know the places this child has been. So happy that we have a traveler on our hands. :)
Thanks to Matt for hosting us so well, and thanks to Steve (Paul's other brother) for getting us the tickets. We had a great time!!
