A bit behind, but at last, here are a few photos of Halloween. Wyatt wore our pumpkin costume that mom made for Greta's first Halloween and that Wy also wore last year. While this may seem like a bit of a downer, let me say
that Wyatt is NOT into dress-up. He was so not excited about anything to do with Halloween, honestly. The trick-or-treating was cool, but he couldn't really keep up with Greta and Alex this year. Wy would have just started to walk up the drive-way to a house, and the big kids would already have received their candy and begun their trek to the next house. And on top of that, some houses were SCARY. The Chick-fil-a cow frightens this child, so you can imagine how vampires and witches affected him.
Greta, on the other hand, had her first really exciting Halloween. She looked forward to the dressing up and the face paint and kept telling everyone that she was "Belle" despite the fact that she has never seen Beauty and the Beast. She and Alex were really on their own this year. They made their way to each house and ran way out ahead of us until we reeled them back in. It was the first time I have been able to catch a glimpse of what my children's independence might feel like.
Holy cow! A Pirate kissing a Princess! Not their first kiss, I have to say. After all, Alex asked Greta to marry him a few months back and since then their play as involved Alex calling Greta, "Wife" and Greta calling Alex, "Husband". Oh geez.
This year I thought I was going all out. I painted my face green, wore a witch's hat, put on some groovy tights -- I was dressing up for Halloween! - - something I have not done since (literally) 1997. Alas, when Greta saw me, she said, "You didn't dress up. That is the black dress you wear to work all the time." While technically this was true, I still felt that the other factors, in the aggregate, made me "dressed up." Am I raising a lawyer?
Happy Halloween!!
