Best Friends

Two weekends ago, we journeyed to Nashville to meet up with Lisa and Courtney - my two dearest and oldest friends. We spent the weekend together with our husbands and children, and it was spectacular. I met Lisa in first grade in ballet class and I met Courtney in fifth grade when she transferred to my elementary school. Since then, we've been the best of friends: through ridiculous junior high school, cheerleading and dance and hanging out under bridges while growing up in small-town Mississippi, and then on into college. I lived with Court my senior year, and Lisa lived with her our first year. Our three lives have crossed and interchanged and through living home and abroad, during weddings and funerals, and while giving birth and adopting - - we remain integral to one another. I love these ladies very dearly, and it is our collective hope that our families will feel this and begin to know each other in some small measure. It is a very good thing that our husbands really like each other, and our children are all very sweet together. Here are a few shots from our trip. Greta, Levi, and Elyza.

We went to an awesome state park, and these guys got to see (up close!) wild deer and turkeys. The park ranger's horse wasn't too shabby, either. Greta, JD, Bay, and Levi were enthralled.

Elyza was hot and tired. Just . . . can't. . . go . . . on. :)

Courtney and Jay have an awesome neighborhood pool. This was my first attempt at getting a group kids shot. I had them all lined up by the flowers, and before I could focus, they scattered. Like herding cats.

How do you get children to take a group shot? Focus them on the television and then snap away! (Left to right:) Levi, Miles, Elyza, Bay, Jon David, and Greta. And of course, sometimes there is a captive audience while waiting to be seated before breakfast.

Nothing better than seeing these ladies care for my children.

This was my best effort at getting a whole group shot. Again - - not super successful. Maybe next year!

I love you guys! Can't wait to see you Christmas!
