A Quick Story

I know, I know - - Greta's birthday was a week ago, and I STILL haven't posted her pictures. Until I make time to do that, here is a quick story to keep you smiling. Yesterday Paul and a friend of his went to the Whitewater Center for the lion's share of the day. Therefore, Greta and I got to play by ourselves all day. We went for a few wagon pulls around the neighborhood, and Greta collected rocks and acorns and Fall leaves aplenty. Once home from our first venture, it was time for G's nap. She insisted on sleeping with one of her rocks and a lovely yellow oak leaf she'd found. Since I was napping with her, I let her do this. Then last night, when tucking her into bed, Greta wanted her rock and leaf. I wasn't comfortable with her sleeping with a choking hazard, so I put the rock on her book shelf right next to her bed and covered it over with the leaf. I told her that the rock was going nite nite, too, and she could visit with it in the morning. This seemed acceptable. This morning when she woke up, she hopped out of bed and went to find Paul - who was already awake and about to leave for work. He brought her to me, and she had the leaf in one hand and the rock in the other. Manuevering her sippy cup of milk was hard with her hands full, but she managed. Sweet, curious, creative child.
