We headed out to Cajon del Maipo at the Cascada de los Animas resort for a few days. This place is only an hour outside Santiago, but it felt like it was a world apart. This place was less "resort" and more "summer camp" for families. So many of the things we had planned were either booked or were not available for little kids, so we improvised and found what we needed outside of the resort. The pool, however, was a great one and located near our cabin. Big, clear, and surrounded by the steep mountains creating the canyon.
One day we did a little hiking and biking near the river.
The cabin had a great front porch for sitting and watching G and Wyatt bike down the hill.
A fabulous restaurant was located close to our cabin, and we ate there both nights enjoying fantastic views of the canyon and river. Mom and dad got to experience all the joys of the Chilean service culture. (That it is nonexistent.) Despite this photo, Wyatt was happy. I'm guessing he was just staring down at the river?
Greta and Wyatt checked horseback riding off of their to-do list. They went on their first solo trail ride. This wasn't the baby stuff. They got to ride their horses with a guide out on a trail instead of round and round in a ring. Pretty exciting for the six and under crowd.
Gorgeous vistas at every turn.
Seeing a little of the town outside of the resort.
Dad got to check river rafting off of his to-do list. We rafted down the Maipo with a guide, and it was a blast.
Funny, we never seem to be paddling in any of these photos. Hmm.
Viva Cajon del Maipo!
