When Paul and I were house hunting, I was pregnant with Greta and Paul had just returned from Egypt. Every house we looked at begged the question from Paul: "Is there a good tree for a tree house?" I reasoned that we'd probably be out of the house by the time the child would be old enough for a tree house, but Paul persisted. When we bought our home, one important factor in the decision was the great back yard with a couple of trees just right for Paul's vision. He finally put his plan into action this summer with the help of many generous friends and family members. The kick-off to summer began with a long weekend with Paul's "teacher friends", as Greta calls them, and Carey Forman helping to lay the groundwork.
Alex, Silas, and Chloe were along for color.
While I'm pretty sure that Sara didn't drive in any nails, she kept Greta and Wyatt company during the major work sessions.
Finally, the four corners were all lined up!
Pretty soon, there was a "floor". Love it when a science teacher, a math teacher, and an art teacher collaborate! Thanks Chris and Clark!
Later in the summer, cousin Emma spent a few days with us. The kids adore her, and she gained extra points by helping put up the rails to the tree house.
Wyatt held the nails steady!
Even Uncle Bruce brought his work gloves all the way from Oregon to help out. These guys were working on the trap door by flashlight on Bruce's last night here.
It took an entire summer and about ten total helpers, but the tree house finally came together. Our children are some of the most loved little kids on the planet. And Paul is one lucky man to have such good friends and family willing to give up a few Saturdays. Thanks to everyone for your help! Come over to play anytime!
